confession

What would you say if I told you that I haven't trimmed my son's fingernails or toenails since the first (and last) time back when he was a newborn?

Does he have long, claw-like snaggle nails? Is someone else trimming them? Does he have naturally short nails and doesn't need them trimmed?
It depends.
I trim The Baby's toenails every other week/when I think to, but she has an inherited tendancy to get ingrown nails. If your guy doesn't need his nails trimmed, why feel bad about it?

I would say phew, I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I made my son bleed the first time I tried to trim his nails. Just a single drop of blood, but it looked huge. I could never bring myself to try again.

I won't even do my cat's nails.

I'd say, "Why not?"

I'm guessing you are a very lucky mother whose baby's nails grow slowly or are soft and come off easily during the course of playing, bathing and being a baby - it's nice to have one less thing to wrangle them about, huh?

Beck, nobody else has either. So far his nails have been pretty thin and just broken off on their own. But now they're getting stronger and longer...

My grandson always scratches his face if we don't keep his nails trimmed almost weekly. I have his mom do it; I remember the horrible feeling of drawing blood on a one week old infant.

How odd ... I just cut Munchkin's fingernails this morning and felt SOOOOO proud of myself.

I'm going to guess that Sugar D does it? Or do you all take turns chewing them off? :-)

Okay. Just read the comments. That's insane! No one cuts them? Holy smokes! We had to cut Munchkin's the day she came home from the hospital and pretty much every five days since. Gah. Then again, she has her very own tube of anti-fungal cream for her perpetually ingrown right-big-toenail. Yuck.

I would say I'm envious. The personal grooming needs around here are daunting.

I'm like Mimi - intensely proud of myself on the semi-annual occasion when I actually trim one of my children's fingernails. (Usually Pie's - Bub hasn't let me near his for years, though he is quite scrupulous about niggling at them himself so they never get too long. He doesn't bite them - they just seem to break and then he carefully pulls away the broken bits.)

Hubby cuts Pumpkin's nails, because I am a big wuss and don't like to make her whine.

He turns on the TV, which distracts her through about 7-8 nails, and then just powers through the rest.

I'd say if he isn't clawing your eyeballs out, you're probably ok.

If his fingernails are long, just bite them off while he's in his bathtub. It's a bit gross, but you won't accidentally snip his fingers. (his toe nails, though? Go get some baby clippers - they're less scary.)

I'd be agog. I have to trim the Boy's nails at least once a week, because he inherited my superfast growing nails. And the Little Guy has been a Baby Scissorhands since birth.

I would say, Rock on, Mama.

I don't think I ever trimmed my second two children's nails. Either I make weak-nailed kids or nails somehow have a way of self-trimming?

I'm with No-Mo. At least once a week since birth. At least. And they're hard, sharp little buggers.

I would say there is someone else trimming them or his nails must grow verrrrrry slowly because I can't see any snaggle nails in his photos.

and then I would read comments and discover you are very lucky. My kids grow those scissorhands and I must trim.

I would say he must be in the Guiness Book of Records by now, but the comments cleared that up for me.

i like doing it, whch is good, because my kids have serious claws if left to their own devices.
