stuff

I have a lump in my armpit. I think it's just an in-grown hair, but I've never had one before so I can't be sure. It's getting bigger and more sore every day. I keep thinking it will go away on its own and I won't have to see the doctor, but it keeps growing. I don't want to go in the doctor because I don't want to take the time and I don't want to say I have a lump in my armpit and have to rush through what I don't think it is.

I'm really busy at work. I get eye strain at the computer and I have to work in front of a computer all day. My head starts to hurt and I can't concentrate anymore and then my mind wanders to the dull ache in my armpit. I KNOW it's nothing to worry about, just something to address - preferably sooner than later - and still I have a little worry that I won't let my mind get too near.

Has anyone ever had an in-grown hair? How do you fix it? How big does it get?

Tonight I will go to belly dance for the first time in more than a year. Somehow I just couldn't make the timing work after I went to back to work. I tried to go last week, but apparently the venue had changed so I came home after only 15 or 20 minutes and Swee'pea had apparently screamed for his mama the entire time. I hope he doesn't scream so much tonight. Especially because I'm leaving my husband and child for four whole days in less than two weeks (eek!) for a girls' weekend.

I don't know about ingrown hairs, but I had a lump in my armpit once that turned out to be something called a lipoma- a benign overgrowth of fat. It was sore at first, but then was just a little bulge of flesh. I think it is gone now, but I haven't though about it in years, so I can't say for sure.

I will say that going to the doctor to find out that it was a lipoma and not something worse was worth the time it took out of my busy pre-finals time in my 4th year of college.

I have had a few harmless lumps in the past few years. One comforting thing my dr. told me that always sticks with me: cancer doesn't generally hurt. Not that you said the C word, but that's where my brain always goes.

And, yay on the girl's weekend; boo on the crying.

I had a huge ingrown hair in my armpit once. It was fairly yucky. But you should take your lumpy armpit to the doctor anyhow, just so you don't worry.

lumps always need to be looked at.
can you get on that please so we can all stop worrying.

If it is an ingrown hair, warm water and warm compresses should help draw it out. If that doesn't work, it may have to be lanced (sorry). I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, but you should see a doctor for comfirmation.

If it were me, I'd feel silly going to a doctor only to find out it's an ingrown hair (I'm weird that way). Is there a clinic near your work? It's always best to check things out - if only to put your mind to rest.

There are lymph nodes in your armpits. When I'm fighting something I frequently have swelling and tenderness there. Sometimes it happens even when I feel healthy.

Have a good time on your trip!
